Summary

The Government Property Agency is the largest property holder in government, with more than £2.1 billion in property assets and over 55% of the government’s office estate.

We are transforming the way the Civil Service works by creating great places to work, leading the largest commercial office programme in the UK, working towards halving carbon emissions from government offices, and achieving greater value for taxpayers. And we are looking for innovative, solutions-focused people to join our team.

Representing the best covenant in the UK – His Majesty’s Government – we are leading significant transformational programmes such as the Government Hubs Programme, Whitehall Campus Programme and Net Zero Programme. We are also delivering cost-effective property services such as asset management, lifecycle replacement and workplace services.

Innovation and progress underpin our behaviours. We foster a culture of lifelong learning, where curiosity and self-improvement are encouraged. Our four core values are at the heart of everything we do. They shape our culture and guide how we work, lead and grow together:

  • Striving for excellence- We always aim to deliver great results
  • Empowering through respect- We insist on fair treatment for all, always
  • Acting with integrity- We consistently do the right thing
  • Succeeding together- We rely on each other to achieve success

We are committed to representing the communities we serve by making Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) part of everything we do. Our strong emphasis on EDI is not just about driving inclusion across our organisation, it is also about ensuring our services meet the needs of government departments and the civil servants who use our spaces.  To ensure that we are always recruiting and retaining a diverse mix of talent, we are particularly inviting applications from candidates who are disabled, ethnically or gender diverse, and people who identify as being part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Join our dynamic and diverse team that leads with purpose, improving sustainability, nurturing social value, driving inclusivity and flexibility, and kickstarting economic growth. We are driven by purpose, and you can be part of it too: where you make a meaningful impact; where you influence; where your voice really matters; where you help to shape our future direction.

As an IT Asset Manager within the UK Government Property Agency, you will be the custodian of the department’s technology estate. The GPA provides shared IT services to the UK Government, this provision varies from operating shared networks, audio visual and other services in modern Government Hubs to innovative solutions such as our shared printing service and common access pass that span our wider estate. All of our shared IT services involve the use of IT assets, whether these be hardware, software, licenses, cloud, certificates or end user devices. All assets need to be tracked and managed through their entire lifecycle, this is a critical role that can deliver significant value to the taxpayer.

You will lead the design and operation of a robust IT Asset Lifecycle Management (ITALM) process. You’ll leverage a modern, integrated tech stack to build a high-fidelity Configuration Management Database (CMDB), ensuring that our data isn't just "available," but actionable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lifecycle Management: Develop, implement, and govern the end-to-end IT asset lifecycle—from initial procurement and tagging to maintenance and secure decommissioning.
  • Audit & Compliance: Conduct regular physical and digital audits. You’ll ensure the department remains compliant with licensing agreements and security standards, mitigating risks before they become issues.
  • CMDB & Tooling: Act as the functional lead for our integrated IT toolsets (e.g., ServiceNow including MID server, LogicMonitor, Cisco Meraki, HP Enterprise). You will ensure these tools are correctly integrated for real-time asset monitoring, tracking, and automated discovery.
  • Financial Stewardship: Provide accurate asset data to support budget forecasting and cost-recovery models, ensuring the department achieves maximum ROI on technology investments. Aid the Lifecycle Replacement program by accurately forecasting product retirement and replacements, assisting the budget holder for both annual spend planning and the wider government spending review cycles
  • Strategy & Policy: Write and maintain comprehensive IT Asset Management (ITAM) policies that align with wider government standards (GDS/CDDO) and security frameworks

Key Responsibilities

Lifecycle Governance: Design and operate the end-to-end IT Asset Lifecycle Management (ITALM) process, ensuring every asset is tracked from procurement through to secure disposal.

CMDB & Tooling Integration: Manage and optimise modern integrated toolsets to maintain a high-fidelity CMDB, leveraging automated discovery and monitoring to ensure real-time data accuracy.

Audit & Compliance: Lead regular audits and reconciliation activities to ensure 100% visibility of the estate, maintaining rigorous hardware and software license compliance.

Strategic Influence: Act as a key liaison between technical teams, senior leadership, and external supply chain partners to embed asset management best practices across the department.
