Residential Support Worker

SALARY: £20,422 per annum + Unsocial Hours Payment + Benefits

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent (Casual hours are also available)

LOCATION: Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England

WORKING HOURS: Average 30 hours per week on a 7-week rota, primarily afternoon/evening and waking-night shifts, with some day shifts.

Shift times include 08:00–16:30, 11:00–23:30, 12:30–00:00, 14:00–23:30, 14:00–00:00, 16:00–23:30, 16:00–00:00 and 23:30–08:30. Additional casual shifts are available; casual hours are flexible and discussed at interview stage

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an opportunity to make a practical difference in a structured residential service supporting adults involved at varying stages of the criminal justice system. The Residential Support Worker helps provide a stable, secure environment from arrival through to move-on.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies, the Residential Support Worker supports structured activities, safeguarding and positive behaviour while maintaining accurate electronic case records.

The Residential Support Worker also contributes to a clean, safe setting and works with probation, police, health and housing services to support residents’ needs and reintegration.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Residential Support Worker include:

• Resident Support: Engage with residents throughout their stay

• Activity Delivery: Support structured sessions that promote positive routines

• Record Keeping: Maintain clear and accurate electronic case records

• Safety Monitoring: Help maintain a safe, secure and stable environment

• Agency Liaison: Work with probation, police, health and housing services

• Policy Compliance: Follow organisational procedures and confidentiality requirements

• Team Working: Collaborate with colleagues to meet resident needs

• Practical Tasks: Carry out basic domestic or cooking duties as required

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• Good numeracy and literacy skills

• An understanding of safeguarding

• Able to work independently without guidance as well as within a team

• Able to work shifts covering evenings, nights, waking nights and weekends

• Enthusiastic, imaginative, motivated and committed to working in a challenging environment

• Empathetic, with the tact and discretion to handle confidential and sensitive issues

• Fully mobile within multi-floor properties that are only accessible by stairs

• Commitment to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults and to the requirements of the Prevent Duty and positive promotion of modern British values

Desirable

• Previous experience of working within a residential setting

• Experience of working with groups or individuals to support, motivate and change behaviour

• Knowledge and experience of work within the criminal justice system
