Hours - Monday to Friday (8:30 - 3:45, with 2 hours extra on a Tuesday 3:45 - 5:45)

Do you thrive in an environment where every day brings new opportunities to make a meaningful difference?A specialist SEN school in the Kent area is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join its supportive team. This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Your new role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, therapists, and the wider support team to provide tailored assistance to pupils across the curriculum. You may support individual learners on a one-to-one basis or work with small groups, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students with their learning and personal development both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Delivering targeted interventions and learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupils to develop successful relationships.
  • Assisting with classroom preparation, record keeping, and pupil progress monitoring.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional, and communication needs.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Encouraging pupil independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
  • Attending training, staff meetings, reviews, and professional development opportunities.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school, including events, trips, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate will be:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND.
  • Patient, adaptable, and resilient.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and professionals.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team while also using their own initiative.
  • Organised, reliable, and committed to maintaining accurate records.
  • Comfortable using ICT systems and educational software.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Essential Requirements

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
  • Ability to support children and young people with additional needs.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working within a special school, alternative provision, or educational setting.
  • Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Relevant SEND, ASD, or behavioural support training.
  • First Aid qualification, or willingness to undertake training.
  • Full UK driving licence.
