Senior Technologist to join the Technical Team in

Clydach, Swansea on a

12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.

Celebrating 125 years of operation, the Mond Nickel Refinery is one of the world's leading nickel refineries. Owned and operated by Vale Europe, part of one of the largest global mining companies, this is an excellent opportunity to work in a stable, safety-driven and world-class engineering environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting refinery operations, process improvement initiatives and technical projects across the site. Working closely with production, engineering and technical colleagues, the role offers a varied mix of process support, problem-solving, data analysis and project work within a complex manufacturing environment.

Key Duties / Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and support to refinery operations and plant leadership teams.
  • Analyse plant performance data and identify opportunities to improve process efficiency, reliability and productivity.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional improvement projects that benefit the refinery as a whole.
  • Develop practical technical solutions based on operational data, analysis and industrial experience.
  • Support key process safety activities including Management of Change (MOC), HAZOP studies and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure refinery requirements are met.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practice across the organisation and wider industry networks.
  • Provide emergency response support and actively participate in site emergency preparedness activities.
  • Monitor key process parameters and recommend corrective actions where required.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within a technical, manufacturing, chemical processing or industrial environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret operational data and make informed recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership through a recognised professional institution.
  • Experience within a process manufacturing, refining, chemical or metallurgical environment.
  • Knowledge of process safety systems including HAZOP, risk assessment and Management of Change.
