Summary

Job Purpose:

To provide high-quality, impartial careers education, information, advice, and guidance (CEIAG) to all learners, supporting their progression into further study, training, or employment. The Careers Adviser will help to ensure the college meets statutory duties and sector standards, including the Gatsby Benchmarks and Ofsted requirements for personal development and learner destinations.

Duties Specific to the Post:

• Deliver impartial, confidential, and person-centred careers advice and guidance

to all learners in line with the CDI code of ethics. The delivery may be face to

face, on the phone or via teams.

• Support the development and delivery of a comprehensive careers programme

in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks and the college’s careers strategy.

• Conduct one-to-one and group guidance sessions, supporting learners to make

informed choices about their education, training, and career options.

• Provide up-to-date information on labour market trends, further and higher education, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities to our learners and

to appropriate staff.

• Support learners with applications for further education, higher education,

apprenticeships, and employment, including CV writing, interview preparation,

and personal statements.

• Organise and contribute to careers fairs, employer talks, workshops, and work

experience opportunities in collaboration with the curriculum and work

placement teams and external partners.

• Maintain accurate and confidential records of guidance provided, ensuring compliance with college policies, the Matrix Standard, and GDPR.

• Track, interpret and report on learner destinations and outcomes, supporting the college’s quality assurance and Ofsted requirements.

• Support UCAS procedures. This will include: helping to administer the UCAS

portal; providing advice to students including personal statement review; organising university workshops in college; training staff as appropriate and

advising parents/carers.

• Build and maintain strong links with employers, training providers, universities, and community organisations to enhance opportunities for learners.

• Help develop and maintain up to date careers information and resources using IT tools available, and make available for learners, parents/carers, staff and external partners.

• Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of careers guidance.

• Support the Careers Leader and Head of Student Services in reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of the college’s careers programme.

• Participate in staff development and training relevant to the role.

• Undertake any other duties as required by line management, commensurate

with the grade and purpose of the post.

General:

• Participate in enrolment, open evenings and some recruitment activities at external events to ensure that potential applicants and students receive accurate information and guidance.

• Ensure all data is handled in line with General Data Protection Regulations.

• Take responsibility for health and safety, equality & diversity, copyright and data protection within the scope of the post.

• Take appropriate responsibility to provide a secure, safe and friendly learning environment including implementation of the College’s Health and Safety Policy.

• Commit to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, ensuring that this commitment is demonstrated in all aspects of the role as appropriate.

Further education is an ever-changing service, and all staff are expected to participate constructively in college activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work. This job description will be reviewed annually during the appraisal process and will be varied in the light of the business needs of the college.

The postholder can be required to carry out any other duties consistent with the grade of the post, at any site on which the College may operate.
