Summary
The post holder will play a key role in shaping and delivering organisation-wide transformation projects that improve outcomes for our service users and communities. The Trust’s Strategy & Transformation Team at South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust works with operational and clinical leaders to design, deliver and embed transformational change that improves quality, safety, experience, outcomes and value. The post holder will work dynamically to lead, manage and deliver transformation projects across all directorates and corporate functions, translating strategic priorities into practical, measurable improvements.

The main duties and responsibilities of the post holder will be to provide management and leadership across the following delivery areas:
• Design, deliver and embed transformational change and workstreams across the organisation into service-delivery
• Identify transformation opportunities, analysing complex situations and comparing a range of options to inform recommendations and next steps, working internally and externally with partners
• Convening stakeholders to identify shared challenges and undertake root-cause analysis across strategic and transformation agendas.
• Defining and benchmarking quantitative and qualitative measures for decision-making, benefits realisation and monitoring impact.
• Co-producing a clear and compelling case for change involving service users, carers, communities and key internal and external stakeholders.
This will involve strong stakeholder engagement, programme and project management, analytical capability and change management skills to ensure sustainable adoption. The post holder will report to the Head of Change and Transformation while working closely with directorate leadership teams and corporate functions to ensure alignment with the Trust strategy and transformation portfolio. The post holder will engage with Operational Directors, Clinical Directors, Heads of Nursing and Quality, service users and carers and the broader operational and clinical workforce, supporting co-production and inclusive change.

We serve a local population of 1.3 million people in south London, as well as specialist services for children and adults across the UK and beyond.
Each year we provide inpatient care for over 5,000 people, and treat more than 40,000 patients in the community in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Croydon.

Transformation delivery
• Problem-solving to translate organisational strategic objectives, national and local priorities into service delivery.
• Navigating new and emerging challenges to develop tailored, measured, and timely responses.
• Ensuring transformational initiatives are delivered effectively and to time, using structured delivery tools alongside influencing, facilitation and relationship management to overcome resistance to change and support adoption.
• Proposing and supporting policy, pathway and operating model changes with service leads and working groups, recognising wider impacts across functions and directorates.
• Holding specialist knowledge of service delivery and transformation to support directorates to deliver and sustain change.
• Undertake evaluation and evidence reviews to inform strategic and transformation design and ensure continued clinical effectiveness
• Supporting continual development of delivery and the effective implementation of initiatives to improve care outcomes
• Monitoring and reporting performance, benefits and KPIs through dashboards and insight packs
• Research into mental health best practice and benchmarking to support service design and development
Project and programme management
• Leading development of overall programme management and project plans to coordinate programme and project activity, and drawing interdependencies and connections with other projects.
• Responding effectively to unforeseen challenges that threaten strategic priorities or project milestones.
• Establishing appropriate governance structures, reporting and controls to support delivery across the transformation portfolio and sustain improvements and new ways of working
• Supporting delivery of strategy and transformation projects (e.g., plans, trackers, workshops and programme meetings)
• Implementing and improving project and resource management approaches, including use of project management software and tools
• Supporting business case development and delegated budget/resource planning for strategy and transformation initiatives, including benefits and cost impact assessment
• Supporting change adoption activities (e.g., training plans, communications, readiness assessments) to embed new ways of working
Management and leadership
• Demonstrate leadership with regards to influencing and decision making to ensure that projects take an appropriate path – including setting timescales and managing milestones
• Work with Senior Managers across the Trust to support governance of the Programme. This will include supporting development of reporting plans, risks and issues logs and monthly dashboard reporting.
• Able to present (both formally and informally) to clinical teams/colleagues about the scope, content and timescales associated with the relevant Transformation projects
Stakeholder engagement and relationship management
• Proactively build relationships and work closely with a range of colleagues across the Trust to encourage collaborative working
• Using, presenting and gaining agreement on highly complex, sensitive or contentious information with diverse stakeholder groups and professions.
• Creating psychological safety to ensure that stakeholders feel empowered to raise concerns about operational and clinical challenges.
• Ensuring effective, sensitive and transparent mechanisms for translating service user feedback and experience of communities into service improvement ideas, bringing together key stakeholders to problem solve effectively
• Monitoring and managing the capacity of key stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered to time, and capacity risks are escalated in a timely manner.
• Stakeholder engagement, including senior internal and external stakeholders from system partners to clinical and operational staff to service users and carers
• Liaison with wider SLaM Corporate Functions, where appropriate
Financial responsibilities
• Support judicious management of project budgets and monitoring expenditure, escalating concerns where appropriate
Other duties
• Meet regularly with the Head of Change and Transformation with regards to programme activity
• Deputise as necessary for other members of the team
• Undertake ad-hoc projects and pieces of work as specified
• Assist the Head of Change and Transformation with events and event set up as appropriate
• Work flexibly to manage own workload in a busy environment, prioritising and competing deadlines across multiple workstreams
• Carry out other duties commensurate to the grade as and when necessary.
