Summary

We are outstanding, you can be too.

We are looking for resilient and dedicated Specialist Learning Support Assistants to join our team, with a particular focus on Positive Behaviour Support.

You will work collaboratively with tutors, therapists and the Positive Behaviour Support Team to help learners overcome barriers; achieve their individual goals; and develop greater independence. You will support learners through their curriculum framework and assist with any challenges faced during the college day.

The Role

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

• Support individuals and groups with their educational, care, therapy and wellbeing needs.

• Facilitate learning activities under the guidance of tutors and managers.

• Monitor and record learners’ progress against individual targets.

• Support learners with complex needs and behaviours that challenge.

• Use appropriate training and strategies to help learners regulate their behaviour.

• Provide in-the-moment Positive Behaviour Support to colleagues as required.

• Complete accurate and timely incident reports following behaviours that challenge.

• Support learners with personal care, meals and breaks while promoting dignity and independence.

• Assist with emergency medication and additional health needs, following appropriate guidance and training.

• Support learners during internal and external work experience.

About you

You will have empathy for people with disabilities and a genuine desire to empower and inspire our learners. You will be able to remain calm in challenging situations, communicate clearly, and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will also need:

• Experience of delivering directed learning to individuals or small groups.

• Experience of working with people who have learning difficulties, disabilities, or complex and challenging needs.

• A calm and professional approach when working under pressure and during challenging situations.

• Good written communication skills with the ability to complete documentation accurately.

• The ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries and positive working relationships.

• The physical ability to keep yourself, learners and colleagues safe when supporting behaviours that challenge.

A Positive Behaviour Support qualification or relevant training would be desirable.

We will be required to carry out an enhanced with barred lists DBS check as this role involves regulated activity.

Qualifications needed

Level 2 Maths and English or a willingness to work towards.

Working Hours

Monday – Friday: 9:00am – 4:30pm. Up to 35 hours per week.
