Summary
Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Care
Location: Service-Based
Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 plus £60 sleep in
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Travel: Regular travel between services may be required
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Registered Manager to lead a children’s residential service, providing strong operational and professional leadership while ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed and child-centred care.
As the Ofsted Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the home, safeguarding, staff leadership, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement, ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the children’s residential home and care team.
• Ensure compliance with Ofsted, Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
• Oversee safeguarding, risk management, health and safety and statutory reporting.
• Manage and develop Deputy Managers, Team Leaders and Residential Support Workers.
• Lead recruitment, supervision, performance management and staff development.
• Oversee care planning, risk assessments, placement matching and reviews.
• Promote trauma-informed, therapeutic and person-centred care.
• Work closely with social workers, families, education providers and other professionals.
• Manage budgets, staffing and resources effectively.
• Lead audits, quality assurance and improvement plans.
• Support Ofsted inspections and ensure the home maintains high standards.
• Make confident professional decisions during safeguarding concerns, incidents and emergencies.
• Work with the Director and Responsible Individual on referrals, placements and service development.
About You
You will ideally have:
• NVQ Level 5 Leadership and Management in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
• Degree-level qualification in Social Work, Health & Social Care or a related field – desirable.
• Current Ofsted Registered Manager status or eligibility to register.
• At least 2 years’ recent management experience within children’s residential care or a regulated care setting.
• Experience supporting children and young people with complex, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding, Ofsted regulations and Children’s Homes Quality Standards.
• Proven experience leading and developing teams.
• Strong understanding of care planning, risk management and therapeutic approaches.
• Excellent communication, leadership and decision-making skills.
• Experience with budgets, compliance, quality assurance and service improvement.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and child-centred practice.
Additional Requirements
This is a service-based role and may involve travel between homes and boroughs, including for placement assessments and operational support. On-call duties may also be required.
