Summary

Team Leader – Children’s Residential Care

Location: Leatherhead / Ascot, Surrey

Salary: £17.07–£17.50 per hour + £60 per sleep-in

Hours: 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and sleep-ins

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Team Leader – Children’s Residential Care to support the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a children’s residential home.

You will lead shifts, supervise Residential Support Workers and provide high-quality, trauma-informed, child-centred care to children and young people with emotional, behavioural and trauma-related needs.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will help create a safe, nurturing environment and ensure care is delivered in line with individual care plans, safeguarding procedures and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate shifts, supporting the residential care team.

• Supervise, mentor and support Residential Support Workers.

• Provide direct care and promote children’s independence, resilience and emotional wellbeing.

• Support care, placement, behaviour and risk assessments and plans.

• Promote safeguarding and respond appropriately to concerns and incidents.

• Maintain accurate care records, daily logs and incident reports.

• Support medication administration and recording in line with procedures.

• Liaise with social workers, therapists, education providers and other professionals.

• Support therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches to care.

• Assist with rotas, shift cover and the on-call system.

• Help maintain a safe, clean and welcoming home environment.

• Act as the responsible person in charge during management absences when required.

About You

You will ideally have:

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent – essential.

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential childcare.

• At least 1 year’s experience in a senior or shift-leading role.

• Experience supporting children with emotional, behavioural and trauma-related needs.

• Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.

• Understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.

• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.

• Confidence managing challenging behaviour and responding to incidents.

• A professional, positive and child-centred approach.

• Good IT and care-recording skills.

• Full UK driving licence – preferred.

• Level 4/5 leadership qualification and Team Teach or equivalent – desirable.

Additional Requirements

The role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and on-call shifts. An Enhanced DBS check is required, and occasional travel to other services or training may be necessary.
