Summary
Expert Practice To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. Provide expert nursing advice in the field of the specialism. Provide guidance in the management of patients through protocol/practice guidelines to support nurses decision making in clinical practice. Make changes to management plans of care using evidence based research and within protocols. Develop efficient care pathways for both staff and patients to enable participants to achieve seamless care. Ensure clinical practice is patient centered and evidence based within the scope of NMC directives, local trust policys and guidelines. Utilise advanced communication skills to explore and address feelings and issues with patients who have a life limiting illness and their carers. Education and Development Acts as an educational resource for other clinical staff, patients and carers, also relevant external agencies by providing formal and informal education sessions. Design and deliver education/training packages suitable for both clinical staff, patients and their carers specific to the specialty. Continually review and update patient education handbook as required. Research, audit and service development Undertake regular audits to evaluate the service provided and its outcome. Set nursing/clinical standards and systematically monitor the delivery of the service. Continually assessing and developing and sharing best practise. Implement any changes within own service. Identify research relevant to develop the service within clinical colleagues so as to promote best practise. Promote the use of, or development of, evidence based guidelines for specific conditions and therapies. Contribute to regional/national audit/research including the provision of presentations as required Identify needs for change within practice and facilitate new ways of working, in conjunction with Senior Sisters and other appropriate individuals. Advise on and evaluate national policy initiatives, NSFs and NICE guidelines that will affect practice locally. Contribute to the business planning for service development if required. Developing Staff and others Keep up to date with new treatment and technological developments regarding specific management. Attend appropriate local/national/international meetings as required Provide learning opportunities for all staff; contribute to learning opportunities for other professional groups and patient/carer groups. Publish and present service developments/service evaluation locally, nationally and internationally as required. Where others are allocated/seconded to work within the service, design ways to improve their competencies in relation to the requirements of the service and provide learning opportunities to fulfil competencies in relation to stage in professional development.
