Green Network Officer

A Green Network Officer post has been created within the Place Strategy team of Renfrewshire Council’s Planning Service. The postholder will lead on and assist with a range of issues associated with Renfrewshire’s green network.

You will lead on the preparation and implementation of the Council’s Local Biodiversity Action Plan, and the preparation of the Council’s Biodiversity Duty report. You will provide pragmatic ecological advice in relation to planning applications and the preparation of the Local Development Plan, and other plans and strategies prepared by the Council.

You will lead on duties relating to food growing including the preparation of strategy, relevant reporting, and working with communities to promote food growing.

You will lead on duties relating to outdoor access including the implementation of the Council’s Core Paths Plan, the running of a Local Access Forum, and dealing with enquiries and dispute resolution relating to outdoor access.

You will lead on the preparation of a Forestry and Woodland Strategy for Renfrewshire and other strategy, policy and guidance relating to trees and woodland. Depending on knowledge and experience you may advise on other matters relating to trees and woodland.

It is essential that you have a degree in ecology or a similar subject, and experience in the preparation and review of ecological strategies, plans and reports, and in the provision of advice on ecological matters, as well as experience of partnership working and report writing.

It is desirable that you have experience of working with and supporting community and special interest groups.

You will have the ability to analyse information and present your analysis clearly, and will have negotiation, dispute resolution and collaboration skills, as well as working knowledge of Microsoft 356 applications or equivalent, and a willingness to learn new applications and technology.

You must have a positive attitude, and effective communication and customer skills, and be willing and able to travel across Renfrewshire to undertake site visits and attend meetings as required.

It is desirable that you have an understanding of legislation relevant to the tasks associated with this post and familiarity with the land use planning system.

You will have the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and to work under your own initiative with limited direction.

A full current driving licence is desirable.
