As a

Catering Assistant with

Sodexo at

Homerton Hospital, you’ll play an important part in preparing and serving nutritious, comforting meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing.

You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe and organised environment across the kitchen, dining and patient-service areas. With a positive attitude and excellent customer service, your contribution can make a real difference to someone’s day.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare and serve food and beverages to the required standards.
  • Deliver meals and refreshments to the appropriate hospital wards and departments.
  • Issue and collect inpatient menus and support ward-based catering services.
  • Receive and correctly store chilled, frozen and dry goods, ensuring appropriate stock rotation.
  • Complete daily HACCP documentation, including food, fridge and freezer temperature records.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and maintain clean, safe and organised food-storage, preparation and service areas.
  • Clean catering equipment, crockery, cutlery and utensils using the appropriate materials and procedures.
  • Check equipment regularly and report any faults, hazards or safety concerns.
  • Monitor stock levels and replenish or order supplies when required.
  • Follow all food safety, COSHH, infection-control and Health and Safety procedures.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Support colleagues and help guide new team members when required.

The duties reflect the key responsibilities contained in related Sodexo healthcare Catering Assistant job descriptions, including food preparation and service, ward meal delivery, cleaning, temperature recording, menu collection and stock rotation.

What you bring:

  • Previous experience in a catering, food-service or hospitality role.
  • A Level 2 food hygiene qualification, or a willingness to complete the required training.
  • Knowledge of catering procedures, HACCP, COSHH and Health and Safety practices.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently during busy periods.
  • An understanding of confidentiality, particularly when working around patients.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • A professional, flexible and dependable approach.
  • A willingness to work various shifts across a
  • 5-day-in-7 working pattern, including weekends where required.

Previous NHS or healthcare catering experience, allergy awareness training, COSHH knowledge and experience of working with patients or members of the public would be advantageous.
