Summary

Morgan Hunt are working with a well established engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Glasgow office. The consultancy has a strong reputation of delivering technically excellent engineering projects across Scotland. The work spans a wide range of sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare, retail, industrial and, in particular, education.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take ownership of projects and play a key role in the their delivery. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction and completion.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the structural engineering design of projects from concept through to completion

Take responsibility for the technical delivery of projects, ensuring designs are robust, practical and commercially viable

Develop and review structural schemes using steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber

Prepare and check structural calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation

Coordinate structural designs with architects, civil engineers, MEP consultants, contractors and other members of the project team

Attend and contribute to design team meetings, client meetings and project reviews

Develop strong working relationships with clients and contribute to the successful delivery of projects

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and less experienced engineers

Review designs and calculations produced by other team members

Identify and manage technical risks throughout the design process

Undertake site visits, inspections and provide technical support during construction

Contribute to business development, bids and proposals where opportunities arise

What you offer:

A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

Strong structural engineering experience within a consultancy environment

Strong experience in the design of building structures within the UK

A thorough understanding of relevant British Standards and Eurocodes

Strong experience designing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and timber

Comfortable taking responsibility for projects and delivering work independently

Experience producing and checking structural calculations and technical reports

Experience with structural analysis and design software (TeklaSD, Tedds, Robot etc)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

The confidence to liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants

Experience developing and mentoring junior engineers and technicians
