This is an exciting opportunity for a Depute Head Teacher for our ASN Provision to join a very dynamic and enthusiastic Senior Leadership team. The remit will include Health & Safety, Transitions – BGE and Senior Phase, Safeguarding, care & welfare (statutory duties including legislation), Raising attainment and achievement for all our learners, Strategic planning for continuous improvement , Recruitment, leadership & management of staff, Resource Management – ASN Budget, IEPs/CSPs, Attendance monitoring, Closing the Gap, Curriculum rationale, development and design, Learning pathways, Liaison with external agencies – CLD, Health, Social work, Police, ELW etc. Pupil voice & developing pupil leadership,  Promoting positive behaviour management strategies

Ross High is a co-educational, non-denominational school situated in Tranent, East Lothian approximately 12 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. The school roll is currently 1226 pupils although this is due to increase significantly over the next few years. The school has good facilities for students and is continually looking for ways to broaden the learning environment out with the school, working together with partners within the community.

Ross High has been designated as the ELC provision for pupils of secondary age who have Complex Support Needs.

Ross High has significant strengths however its motto ‘Ad Meliora – Towards Better’ states clearly the willingness to improve. The school has clear Aims and Values including the Mission Statement ‘Excellence for Everyone’. Inclusion in all aspects of learning is at the heart of them all. The school strives to offer the highest quality of learning and teaching, support and preparation for the next phase in their lives. The school also has a Code of Conduct as well as a Code of Learning. The school ethos is built on these three key documents. An Expected Standards document has been introduced to all classes to ensure a consistent high quality of learning and teaching across the school.

Ross High also offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities that allow pupils to develop their skills beyond the classroom.

Job Details

The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), ; recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
