Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a Psychology Graduate to join a specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon, supporting young people with SEN, SEND and SEMH needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Psychology graduate looking to put their degree into practice, gain meaningful hands-on experience and build a strong foundation for a career working with children and young people.

You'll gain experience in a specialist setting while developing your understanding of behaviour, emotional wellbeing, communication, learning, neurodiversity and individual needs.

And this isn't simply a classroom-based role.

You'll support young people with their learning while also helping them develop confidence, independence and practical life skills, including getting out into the community, taking part in activities, visiting local facilities and experiencing new things.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop experience that can complement a Psychology degree and provide valuable insight into working with children and young people.

You'll gain exposure to:

- SEN and SEND

- SEMH and emotional wellbeing

- Autism and ADHD

- Behaviour and communication

- Individual learning needs

- Building positive professional relationships

- Supporting confidence and independence

- Understanding how young people respond to different environments and approaches

- Supporting young people in both education and community settings

For graduates considering future careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Teaching, SEND, Youth Work, Mental Health, Child Development or specialist education, this can provide valuable practical experience alongside your academic background.

As a Psychology Graduate Learning Support / Outreach Assistant, you'll work closely with young people, supporting both their education and wider development.

Your day could include:

- Supporting 1:1 and small-group learning

- Helping young people engage with education and activities

- Supporting pupils with SEN, SEND and SEMH needs

- Developing positive and consistent relationships

- Helping young people build confidence, communication and independence

- Supporting practical life skills and everyday living

- Accompanying young people on community activities and days out

- Supporting visits to shops, local facilities and other community settings

- Encouraging young people to try new activities and experiences

- Helping pupils develop greater confidence in the community

- Working alongside teachers and experienced education professionals

- Observing and responding appropriately to individual needs and behaviours

Every day will give you the opportunity to learn more about how young people think, learn, communicate and develop - and how the right support can help them progress.

We're particularly interested in hearing from Psychology graduates who are passionate about working with young people and keen to gain practical experience within SEN, SEND and SEMH education.

You don't necessarily need previous school experience.

We're looking for someone who is:

- A Psychology graduate or has a relevant Psychology degree

- Passionate about working with children and young people

- Patient, empathetic and encouraging

- Curious about behaviour, learning and development

- Confident building professional relationships

- Keen to learn from experienced SEN professionals

- Comfortable supporting young people on a 1:1 basis

- Positive, reliable and proactive

- Interested in developing a long-term career working with young people

- A confident driver with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Previous experience through placements, volunteering, youth work, care, tutoring, mentoring, residential settings or working with children would be beneficial, but isn't essential.

For the right Psychology graduate, this role can be an excellent opportunity to take the next step after university.

You'll develop practical experience that can strengthen your CV and help you understand which area of working with young people you want to pursue.

It can provide a strong foundation for future opportunities across SEN education, SEMH, pastoral support, specialist teaching, youth work, mental health and psychology-related careers.

You'll also have the opportunity to develop professionally through your experience within a specialist setting and through future opportunities with Luma Education Recruitment.
