Summary

Job Description Salaried GPJob Summary To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. The post holder will adhere to GMC standards for good medical practice, contribute to the effective management of the practice, lead by example and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with the multidisciplinary team. Confidentiality Walnut Tree Health Centre is committed to maintaining an outstanding confidential service. Patients entrust us with sensitive information relating to their health and care and have the right to expect staff to respect their privacy and maintain confidentiality. All staff must protect patient information and provide a confidential service to meet legal requirements and retain patient trust. Quality and Continuous Improvement All personnel are required to consider not only what they do but how they achieve it. By continually reviewing processes, we can improve the effectiveness of how we work. Everyone is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve quality, sharing good practice and working with the team to improve patient care. Walnut Tree Health Centre promotes a culture of continuous improvement where everyone can contribute suggestions to improve service delivery and patient care. Staff should interpret national strategies and policies into local implementation strategies aligned with the values and culture of general practice. All staff must contribute to investigations and root cause analyses, including serious incident investigations and multidisciplinary case reviews. Induction A full induction programme is provided at Walnut Tree Health Centre. When attending any practice within the network, the post holder must also complete that practice's induction programme. Learning and Development Training and development are fundamental to ensuring staff have the appropriate skills, knowledge, attitude and competence to perform their roles. All staff must complete mandatory training as directed by the training co-ordinator. The post holder is expected to assess their own learning needs and undertake appropriate learning. The post holder will undertake mentorship for team members and share learning and information to promote good practice and inform colleagues of current and future developments, including courses and conferences. The post holder will provide an educational role to patients, carers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning. Collaborative Working All staff must recognise the importance of collaborative working, understand their own role and scope, and identify how this may develop over time. Staff must prioritise workloads and use effective time management. Teamwork is essential in a multidisciplinary environment. The post holder must work as an effective and responsible team member, support others, explore new ways of working and work effectively with colleagues to define values, direction and policies affecting care delivery. Effective communication is essential. Staff must communicate in a way that enables appropriate information sharing. All staff should delegate clearly and appropriately, following safe practice and assessment of competence. Plans and outcomes by which to measure success should be agreed. Managing Information All staff should use technology and appropriate software to support the planning, implementation and monitoring of care and the presentation and communication of information. Data should be reviewed and processed using accurate SNOMED/read codes to ensure easy and accurate information retrieval for monitoring and audit. Service Delivery Staff will receive detailed information during induction regarding policies and procedures. The post holder must adhere to organisational policies and regional directives and ensure protocols are followed. Security Security is the responsibility of all personnel. The post holder must remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately to their line manager. Door lock codes must never be shared. Restricted areas must remain secured. Password controls must be maintained and passwords must not be shared. Professional Conduct All staff are required to dress appropriately for their role. Leave All personnel are entitled to take leave. Line managers must ensure staff are given the opportunity to take their allocated annual leave and should encourage staff to take their full entitlement. Public holidays will be calculated on a pro-rata basis according to hours worked. Primary Key Responsibilities The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may occasionally be a requirement to carry out other tasks depending on workload and staffing levels: Deliver highly effective medical care to the entitled population. Provide services commensurate with the GMS contract. Undertake generic prescribing in accordance with local and national guidance. Effectively manage long-term conditions. Process administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and associated administrative tasks. Undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles on a rotational basis. Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with good practice, policy and guidance. Work collaboratively and accept an equal share of the practice workload. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area or areas of QOF. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required. Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice, including clinical governance and training. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process. Prepare for and complete the revalidation process. Commit to self-learning and promote an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team. Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines. Support the Partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure. Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies. Encourage collaborative working, liaise regularly with all staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Secondary Responsibilities In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Salaried GP may be requested to: Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events, applying a structured approach such as root cause analysis (RCA).
