Summary
We are working with a friendly school in Waltham Forest to find a reliable, hands-on Caretaker. You'll keep the school safe, clean and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors, and be a trusted part of the school community.
The role
- Open and lock up the school each day, including setting and unsetting alarms
- Carry out daily site checks and report any health and safety issues
- Handle minor repairs and maintenance: changing bulbs, fixing furniture, touch-up painting and so on
- Keep the grounds tidy, including litter picking, gritting and clearing leaves
- Move furniture and set up halls for assemblies, events and exams
- Supervise contractors on site and make sure they follow the school's procedures
- Support the cleaning team and help with deep cleans in the holidays when needed
- Keep simple records such as fire alarm tests, water temperature checks and maintenance logs
About you
- Experience as a caretaker, site assistant, handyperson or in facilities work (school experience ideal but not essential)
- Practical and confident with basic DIY and maintenance
- Reliable and punctual, happy to work split shifts, typically early mornings and after school
- A good understanding of health and safety, and security-minded
- Friendly and approachable with children, staff and parents
- Able to do physical work, including lifting and moving furniture
