Summary

Biomedical Support Worker Band 2 An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, Biomedical Support Worker, Band 2 to join the Cellular Pathology Team at St George's Hospital, Tooting.

Candidates will have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work alongside other Biomedical Support Workers and Biomedical Scientists as part of a team.

This post will offer successful applicants the opportunity to support the Trusts  cancer & diagnostics testing, coupled with other duties including preparing samples for analysis, inputting patient data, maintaining lab equipment and dealing with enquiries.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo training.Candidates will be required to work  on a roster  once fully trained and competent. Interview date: TBC

Duties will include maintaining laboratory equipment, aiding laboratory staff in some aspects of technical work, entry of patient data onto the pathology computer system and assisting medical staff with diagnostic tissue handling of operative specimens. Good literacy, biological science, numeracy and communication skills are required; keyboard skills would be an advantage.

You should have the ability to work as part of a team and to manage your own workload. Previous experience of medical terminology and data entry.

SWLP is a pathology partnership between Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which provides a single, integrated pathology service for hospitals and GPs across South West London and beyond.’

1. To work in a designated area of the department under the supervision of a section leader but will organise own work tasks or activities.

2. To understand and perform work in accordance with the standard operational policies using basic theoretical knowledge.

3. Ensure that documentation is maintained to the SWL Pathology standard (including electronic records).

4. Be able to solve basic problems within work area and refer unresolved problems to a more senior member of staff.

5. To prepare specimens for diagnostic testing.

6. To contribute towards a culture of quality in the department and to comply and promote the quality initiatives within the department consistent with maintaining laboratory accreditation.
