Why Join Us? This is more than consultant post in a busy major trauma centre—it's an opportunity to help shape the future of a growing Emergency Department.  We offer a varied role across the Emergency Department and Minor Injury Unit, opportunities to develop trauma care skills, and the chance to work alongside an experienced, supportive multidisciplinary team.  The Emergency Department at Southmead Hospital sees between300 and 350 patients per day, with a wide variety of conditionspredominantly fromthe North of Bristol but from the region as part of the Trusts tertiary services. 

Please note the JD for this role does not have RCEM approval due to the differences with the SPA split within the job plan. 

Applicants should have a CCT or be within twelve months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC’s specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.  

The successful applicant will work with the established29Consultantsand 2 Specialistsin a rota including evening,weekendand overnight sessions as part of their job plan.  The successful applicant will be expected to take a role in ournew (co-located) minor injuriesunit, as well as working with the other Consultants on the shop floor, enabling the Department to meet National Service Frameworks and Government targets. 

The appointee will be contractually accountable to the BristolFoundationNHS Trust for the provision of services.  The appointee will be managerially responsible to the Chief Executive through the Divisional Director. All Consultantsare required toundergo an annual appraisal carried outin accordance withthe Trust policy. Consultantsare also required totake an active and co-operative approach to their job planning, which will be reviewed on an annual basis by their clinical Director.
