Are you an organised and detail-oriented finance professional looking to join a busy and supportive finance team? South Hampshire College Group is seeking a Finance Officer to play a key role in delivering an efficient and effective transactional finance service across the Group.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in accounts payable, finance administration, or purchase ledger processes who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering a high-quality service.

As a Finance Officer, you will provide a full end-to-end purchase invoice processing and payment service, ensuring transactions are completed accurately and in a timely manner. You will work closely with the Transactional Finance Manager and colleagues across the Group to support the smooth operation of the finance function.

Duties

Accounts Payable

  • Oversee the Accounts Payable function across the Group, ensuring invoices and credit notes are processed accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor purchase requests and ensure purchase orders are approved and issued in a timely manner.
  • Perform regular reviews of outstanding purchase orders and clear unnecessary purchase order lines.
  • Set up new supplier accounts and carry out appropriate checks when bank details are added or amended.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts, investigate discrepancies and resolve queries efficiently.
  • Prepare and undertake initial reviews of supplier payment runs.

Finance Operations

  • Assist with accounts receivable activities, including credit control support.
  • Process daily transactions across Group bank accounts.
  • Provide cover and support for other Finance Officer functions when required.
  • Manage petty cash floats and complete monthly reconciliations.
  • Support the Transactional Finance Manager with financial information, reporting requirements, budgeting processes and annual accounts preparation.
  • Liaise with budget holders and staff to ensure financial regulations and procedures are understood and followed.

Experience

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Has previous experience within a finance, accounts payable, purchase ledger or financial administration environment.
  • Possesses strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Has excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Is confident using financial systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
