Summary

The total hourly rate payable for this role is £37.99. This is made up of a basic hourly rate of £23.34, plus a preparation allowance, bringing the rate to £33.03. A further 15% annual leave allowance increases the total hourly rate to £37.99.

We are looking to recruit a

Bank Residential Childcare Trainer to join our fantastic Apprenticeship team. As Surrey County Council are planning to expand the number of residential childcare homes across the county, we are looking for someone who is flexible and responsive to change in an evolving sector to join us in making this apprenticeship delivery a success.

We are committed to providing a healthy work life balance which includes flexible working. Although this position is based at our

Woking Adult Learning Centre, staff can work in an agile way, including from home. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and learner work placements within Surrey's Children's Residential care homes will be required. There may be occasions when you will need to work outside of normal 9-5 office hours as this depends on your learners' shifts.

About The Role

As a Bank Residential Childcare Trainer, you will deliver apprenticeship programs through group and individual sessions at apprentices' workplaces, training centres, or remotely via MS Teams. Your role includes all aspects of training, assessment, and adherence to Quality Assurance and regulatory standards, using OneFile e-portfolio for planning, assessments, and feedback.

You will support and motivate a caseload of around 15-18 learners, integrating key topics such as safeguarding, British values, and EDI into your sessions. You'll manage communication with learners and their line managers, ensuring progress and implementing action plans as needed. While Functional Skills English and Maths are taught separately by specialists, you will embed these skills into the apprenticeship delivery.

This role is to deliver the Residential Childcare Apprenticeships at Level 4 and Level 5. These apprenticeships include the Level 3 and Level 5 NCFE/CACHE Diplomas, information of which can be found via the following links:

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our

behaviours:

  • Residential/social childcare qualification and/or significant professional experience in a senior residential childcare role
  • Thorough knowledge of current children's home legislation in England
  • A level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in both English and Maths
  • You will need the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of this role
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills

You will need to hold the below teaching and assessing qualifications:

  • An introductory teaching/training award (PTLLS/L3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent)
  • An Assessor qualification (TAQA/A1 or equivalent)

  4. The role requires managing a caseload of learners, using e-portfolio systems, and travelling in Surrey. Please can you provide an example demonstrating your IT, Organisational and time-management skills.

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation and will move to new authorities in April 2027. This role is currently employed by Surrey County Council and will remain so until then. If you are employed by Surrey County Council on 1 April 2027, your employment will transfer under TUPE arrangements to one of the new councils, with your current terms and conditions protected. The provisional allocation for this post is West Surrey Council subject to final confirmation through the wider transition process later this year.
