Summary

What's involved with this role:

Triumph Consultants are looking for a Waste & Fleet Training Officer to build and maintain the training and competency matrix, and ensure every operational employee's training remains up to date. Contract is for 12 months in Rugby, CV21 2RR. 

Waste & Fleet Training Officer

Pay Rate: £140.00 per day PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

Contract length:12 months

Location: Rugby CV21 2RR

Hours of work are flexi, it will be around 08:00 to 16:00 on 37 hours per week but flexi time so can come in early if training requires etc, will need to be flexible.

 Office based

Key requirements:

HGV class 2 licence and experience in waster operations

Ideally a qualified driving assessor

Previous experience in a training/coaching role, or significant experience as a driver within waste management or another service industry

Category C (or above) driving license, with experience driving a range of vehicle types

Experience developing and maintaining training matrices and competency records in a fleet, waste, highways or local authority environment.

Good working knowledge of DVSA guidance, Operator License compliance, and core Health & Safety legislation as it applies to waste and fleet operations.

NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent), or IOSH membership/working towards it — the practical floor for anyone owning a compliance matrix, ensuring credibility with HSE and DVSA auditors

Excellent coaching, communication and influencing skills — needed both to correct behaviour on the ground and to chase compliance across multiple teams and providers

Key responsibilities

Responsible for the operational training and competency assurance across Waste Services and the wider WSU workforce (drivers, loaders, street cleansing operatives and other frontline staff)

Build and maintain a single, accurate training and competency matrix and ensure every operational employee's training remains valid and up to date

Provide a hands-on, coaching-led approach to frontline driver standards; includes spending time on the yard and on the road with crews, not just behind a spreadsheet

Where subject-specific expertise is needed (e.g. specialist plant training), delivery may be arranged through qualified internal colleagues or external providers, but day-to-day driver coaching, behavioural correction, and gate/route compliance checks are core, active parts of this role
