Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join our successful Art Department on a 12-month fixed-term basis. Art is a popular and successful subject at Shevington High School, delivered across KS3 and KS4, and the department also offers GCSE Photography. We are looking for someone who shares our ambition to build on the successes of the team and provide an excellent experience for our students.
The successful candidate will have strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver high-quality Art teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of teaching Photography would be an advantage but is not essential. Our curriculum is well established and comprehensively resourced, with schemes of work, lesson materials and supporting resources in place. We are looking for a teacher who will make effective use of these resources while bringing their own creativity and expertise to the classroom and working collaboratively with colleagues.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Shevington High School and become part of a supportive and successful department. Students are encouraged to develop their creativity, technical skills and confidence through an ambitious curriculum which provides opportunities to explore a range of artistic techniques, processes and media. All students also have access to their own device to support research, creativity and the development of their work.
The successful candidate will play an important role in developing our students’ knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for Art. Alongside delivering high-quality lessons, we want someone who will encourage students to be ambitious and creative and who will look for opportunities to enrich their experiences through extracurricular activities and wider opportunities that bring the subject to life.
We are seeking someone who is:
• An enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher with a genuine passion for Art.
• An ambitious classroom practitioner who has high expectations for all learners and is committed to delivering high-quality teaching.
• A reflective professional who is keen to develop their practice and work collaboratively as part of a supportive department.
• Someone who builds positive relationships with young people and creates a calm, purposeful and inclusive learning environment.
• A positive team member who is keen to contribute to the wider life of the department and school.
Key responsibilities include:
• Delivering high-quality Art teaching across KS3 and KS4.
• Using and adapting the department’s established curriculum and resources to meet the needs of all students.
• Supporting students to achieve strong outcomes through effective teaching, assessment and intervention.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to the continued success and development of the Art Department.
• Contributing to enrichment and extracurricular opportunities within the department.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and successful department and to make a significant contribution to Art at Shevington High School during the 12-month appointment.
Above all, we are seeking someone with the right character, values and commitment to make a genuine contribution to our school community and to the lives of the young people we serve.
The school reserves the right to interview and appoint this position ahead of any advised application closing date should an appropriate candidate be found. Therefore, it is advisable to submit applications as early as possible.
As part of our safer recruitment procedures, an online search will be undertaken on shortlisted candidates in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026.
