Summary

In recent years Health Education England, NHS England and NHS Improvement published a paper on “Securing the Future Workforce for Emergency Departments in England”. The main proposal of this paper was to introduce Clinical Educators into the ED workforce. On the back of this publication, between 2022 and 2025, Barts Health ran a pilot project to assess the applicability of the Clinical Educator role across the wider workforce in all the specialities.

Evaluation of this pilot project has demonstrated that the implementation of a Clinical Educator strategy has improved support for multiprofessional teams, enhanced training and improved productivity across the Trust.

Using the results of the GMC survey, feedback from learners and productivity from existing Clinical Educators, we are seeking to appoint additional Clinical Educators across the Trust. This is for 0.5-2PAs on a fixed 1year term, although the role may be extended dependent on evaluation of efficacy and availability of funding.

The post holder will be responsible for providing visible clinical training and support to Resident Doctors, Trust and Specialty Doctors, PAs, and ACPs, ensuring that training and development is inclusive for the entire multiprofessional team.

The substantive post holder will be expected to promote reflective practice, provide feedback and facilitate workplace-based assessments against the curricula of Royal Colleges. 90% of the role will be shop floor based.

The post holder will work closely with the medical education staff at the Education Academy, local Specialty Tutor, DME and the Faculty Lead for Clinical Educators.
