Long Term Futures is recruiting a confident SEN Teaching Assistant to support three pupils in a Year 6 class at a welcoming junior school in Barnet.
You'll work closely with one pupil with Autism (ASD) and two pupils with ADHD and trauma-related needs, helping them remain engaged, regulated and able to access learning.
The school needs someone who is calm, consistent and resilient. Building trust will be particularly important, alongside knowing when to encourage, when to give space and how to maintain clear boundaries without escalating situations.
The Role
- Provide targeted support for three Year 6 pupils
- Support needs including ASD, ADHD and trauma
- Work 1:1 and with pupils in a small-group setting
- Help pupils regulate emotions and remain engaged with learning
- Use calm, consistent approaches to behaviour and communication
- Break down Year 6 learning into manageable steps
- Support English, Maths and wider curriculum activities
- Encourage independence ahead of the transition to secondary school
- Follow individual strategies, EHCP targets and support plans
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo
What We're Looking For
- Previous SEN Teaching Assistant experience is strongly preferred
- Experience supporting ASD and/or ADHD
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches would be particularly valuable
- Confident supporting upper KS2 pupils academically
- Patient and emotionally consistent when pupils become dysregulated
- Able to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
- Comfortable supporting several pupils with differing needs
