Hour: 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

Length of Contract: 3 months, the client may extend the contract if you are required longer

Location: Cannock, Staffordshire WS11 8JP

Working Arrangements: 2 - 3 days on site

Candidates must be able to start ASAP if successful

We’re looking for an experienced Category Manager to lead strategic procurement across waste haulage and disposal services. This is a hands-on role focused on third-party subcontractors, competitive tendering, supplier management and delivering commercial value across multiple waste streams.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver category strategies for waste transportation and disposal

Lead end-to-end competitive tenders and negotiate rates, contracts and terms

Manage suppliers and third-party subcontractors, including performance and risk

Manage spend across hazardous, non-hazardous, inert and specialist waste

Analyse markets, spend and KPIs to identify cost savings and improvement opportunities

Manage haulage across road, rail, sea and air freight

Work closely with Finance, Legal, Compliance, Sustainability and Procurement stakeholders

Support sustainability, ESG and circular economy initiatives

Manage and develop a Category Specialist

Essential

Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related discipline or CIPS qualified/working towards MCIPS

Proven experience in procurement/category management

Strong experience running competitive tenders

Demonstrable experience negotiating haulage rates and waste disposal contracts

Experience managing third-party subcontractors and service providers

Experience managing waste transportation and/or waste disposal categories

Strong strategic procurement, contract management, negotiation, supplier relationship and data analysis skills

Understanding of waste management regulations, compliance and ESG/sustainability

Desirable

MCIPS or CMILT qualification

Master's/MBA qualification

Experience within waste management or environmental services

Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and specialist waste handling

Experience in freight forwarding, customs or international transportation

Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills

Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a collaborative team
