Experienced Machinist – DerbyWorkchain RecruitmentWorkchain Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Machinist to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing company based in Derby, specialising in precision-engineered bearings and components for the marine and pump industries.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced machinist looking for a permanent position within a skilled engineering team.The RoleSetting and operating conventional centre lathes, milling machines and grinding machines.Manufacturing precision components from engineering drawings.Working to tight engineering tolerances and required surface finishes.Carrying out dimensional inspections and quality checks on finished components.Using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, vernier callipers and bore gauges.Maintaining machinery, tooling and a clean, safe working environment.Working independently and taking responsibility for the quality of your own work.Working HoursThe role operates on a two-week rotating shift pattern:Week 1 – Early Shift: Monday to Friday, 6am–2:30pm.Week 2 – Late Shift: Monday to Thursday, 12 noon–10:30pm.30-minute unpaid break each day.40 paid hours per week.This provides a four-day working week every second week.Pay & BenefitsBasic pay: £14–£16 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.Late shift allowance: Additional £1.50 per hour.Quarterly production bonus: Up to one week's pay per quarter, subject to production targets.Permanent, full-time position.RequirementsSignificant experience as a machinist within an engineering or manufacturing environment.Experience setting and operating conventional centre lathes, milling machines and grinders.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.Good understanding of engineering tolerances and precision measurement.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Previous experience in quality control, inspection or CNC machining would be advantageous.
