Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Public Health Service as part of the Prevention and Inclusion Team.
Our team works to improve health and wellbeing, reduce health inequalities and support residents to live healthier, more independent lives. We do this through prevention, partnership working, evidence-based practice and innovative approaches to behaviour change.
Working to the Consultant in Public Health for the Prevention and Inclusion the post will support the Prevention and Inclusion Team across a broad portfolio of prevention-focused activities that includes strategy development, programme delivery and commissioning. Areas covered include health behaviours, substance misuse healthy ageing, cardiovascular disease prevention and mental health

What will you be doing?
As a Public Health Officer, you will support the development, delivery and continuous improvement of programmes and services that help prevent ill health, promote healthy lifestyles and reduce inequalities across Cambridgeshire. You will work closely with colleagues across Public Health and more widely across Cambridgeshire County Council with NHS organisations, district councils, community organisations and commissioned providers to support delivery of shared priorities.
You will play an important role in ensuring programmes are well coordinated, effectively managed and informed by evidence, helping to improve outcomes for residents and communities.
In this role, you will:
Support the planning, coordination and delivery of public health projects, programmes and commissioned services.
Monitor progress against plans, milestones, performance indicators and outcomes, producing reports and updates for senior colleagues.
Organise and support meetings, workshops and partnership groups, including preparing papers, recording actions and following up on agreed actions.
Maintain project documentation, risk logs, action plans and performance reporting systems.
Support effective communication and collaboration with internal teams, partners and stakeholders.
Assist with data collection, analysis and interpretation to support service improvement and decision-making.
Contribute to research, evaluation and evidence reviews to inform public health policy and practice.
Support commissioning, procurement, contract management, and performance monitoring activities.
Assist with budget monitoring and administrative processes associated with programme delivery.
About you
We are looking for a motivated and organised individual but also flexible, with strong project coordination skills and a passion for improving population health and reducing health inequalities.
You will bring:
- A degree or equivalent experience.
- An understanding of public health principles, prevention, and health inequalities.
- An awareness of behaviour change approaches and the wider factors that influence health and wellbeing.
- An understanding of the role of local government, the NHS, voluntary and community organisations in improving health outcomes.
- Experience supporting or coordinating projects, programmes, or services, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- The ability to work confidently with data, reports, and performance information.
- A commitment to improving outcomes for residents and supporting a fairer, healthier Cambridgeshire.
