About Isteni
Isteni Design & Build is a fast-growing Bristol-based construction and property company specialising in loft conversions, extensions, renovations and high-quality residential projects.
As our project pipeline continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Carpenter / Working Site Foreman to become a key member of our construction team.
This is a hands-on role. You will remain actively involved in carpentry while also taking responsibility for the day-to-day organisation of the site, coordinating trades, maintaining quality, planning ahead and helping develop our apprentices.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, thinks ahead, communicates well and takes genuine pride in their workmanship.
Key Carpentry Responsibilities
You will carry out and oversee high-quality first and second-fix carpentry, including:
Loft conversion and dormer carpentry
Structural timber work, joists and studwork
Traditional hand-cut roofing
Staircases and associated carpentry
Doors, frames and linings
Skirting and architraves
Flooring
Kitchens and fitted furniture
Wardrobes and built-in storage
Ironmongery
Fire doors where applicable
Boxing and access panels
Bespoke carpentry
Snagging and finishing works
Working accurately from architectural and structural drawings
Measuring and setting out works accurately
Strong Second-Fix Skills Are Essential
The quality of our finishing work is extremely important.
You should be highly competent with:
Hanging and adjusting doors
Door linings and frames
Skirting and architraves
Accurate mitres, scribes and joints
Ironmongery, locks and hinges
Stair components, handrails and balustrades
Kitchens and fitted furniture
Window boards
Built-in cupboards and shelving
Final adjustments and snagging
We are looking for someone who understands the difference between work being finished and being finished properly.
Site Foreman Responsibilities
Alongside your carpentry work, you will help take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site, working closely with our Construction/Project Manager.
This will include:
Organising daily site activities and priorities
Coordinating trades, subcontractors, labourers and apprentices
Monitoring progress against the construction programme
Ensuring work is completed in the correct sequence
Checking workmanship and maintaining quality standards
Reading drawings and identifying potential issues
Planning ahead for labour, materials and upcoming works
Requesting materials with sufficient notice
Checking deliveries and reporting shortages
Identifying delays or problems early and communicating them to management
Managing ongoing snagging and rectification
Maintaining a clean, organised and professional site
Supporting site health & safety requirements
Ensuring the site is safe and secure
We want someone who plans rather than reacts.
If you can see that materials, information or another trade will be needed next week, we expect you to raise it today.
Training & Supporting Apprentices
You will also play an important role in developing our apprentices and junior team members by:
Teaching first and second-fix carpentry techniques
Demonstrating measuring and setting out
Helping apprentices understand drawings
Teaching safe and correct use of tools
Allocating appropriate tasks
Checking workmanship and providing constructive feedback
Helping improve quality and efficiency
Teaching good site habits and organisation
Leading by example
Formal teaching qualifications are not required, but you should be patient, approachable and willing to share your knowledge.

Essential Requirements
Full UK driving licence
Your own reliable vehicle – essential
Own essential hand tools
Highly Desirable
8–10+ years' carpentry/construction experience
Previous Site Foreman/Supervisor experience
Traditional hand-cut roofing
Loft conversion and extension experience
Structural carpentry
Kitchen and fitted furniture installation
Staircase installation
Fire door experience
Multi-trade knowledge
Experience supervising or training apprentices
Own Vehicle – Essential
You must have your own reliable vehicle to travel independently between our projects across Bristol and surrounding areas and transport your essential tools.
A company vehicle may become available following successful completion of probation, subject to role requirements and company policy.
