About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join Stark and play a key role in the successful delivery of high-accuracy metering and grid system monitoring projects.

This is a technically focused role where you’ll take responsibility across the full project lifecycle — from initial design and technical development through to testing, commissioning and final customer handover.

Working closely with Project Managers, Designers, customers and site teams, you’ll provide technical leadership and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards, while keeping a close eye on quality, timescales and cost.

You’ll also have the opportunity to work on a variety of technically challenging projects involving advanced metering, grid monitoring, communications and control systems.

What you’ll be doing

Deliver engineering activities across metering and grid system monitoring projects, from design through to testing, commissioning and final handover.
Act as a key day-to-day technical contact for customers throughout project delivery, keeping them informed and managing expectations.
Review and manage technical designs, documentation and controlled changes for CoP1, CoP2 and bespoke monitoring solutions.
Lead and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Factory Integration Testing (FIT), System Integration Testing (SIT) and customer witness testing.
Work closely with the Design team to develop customer-specific technical solutions.
Coordinate installation, commissioning and system integration at customer sites.
Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant technical standards, safety requirements and internal processes.
Identify and resolve technical issues throughout the project lifecycle, using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Consider the commercial impact of technical and scope decisions, ensuring projects remain aligned with cost, schedule and margin expectations.
Work across both office and customer/site environments, with travel throughout the UK required depending on project requirements.
Contribute to a positive culture of technical development through training, coaching and knowledge sharing.
Follow all Stark policies, procedures and safe working practices.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with a strong electrical or electronic engineering background who is comfortable working across both technical and customer-facing aspects of project delivery.

You’ll ideally have:

Experience delivering engineering projects involving metering, grid monitoring or related electrical systems.
A good understanding of high-accuracy metering, grid monitoring and SCADA systems.
Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 104, Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP3, MQTT and/or DLMS.
The ability to confidently discuss technical requirements with customers, engineers and internal stakeholders.
Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including AutoCAD.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Good commercial awareness and an understanding of how technical decisions can impact cost, programme and project margin.
Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple project requirements.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
A willingness to continue developing your technical knowledge and keep up to date with new technologies, methods and industry practices.
