Pay Rate: £400/day
The Role:
We are currently recruiting for an experienced General Foreman to oversee site operations and supervise teams of Foremen, Gangers, direct labour and subcontractors.
The successful candidate will take ownership of their section of works, ensuring activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality, programme and commercial standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise Foremen, Gangers, direct labour and subcontractors.
- Take responsibility for the delivery of a section of works from start through to handover.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Input into Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments and Temporary Works requirements.
- Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- Deliver and support toolbox talks and task briefings.
- Monitor plant, equipment and small tools to ensure they are suitable and maintained.
- Carry out safety and environmental inspections.
- Identify future setting-out requirements and communicate these to the Engineering team.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure works are completed correctly first time.
- Carry out inspections and ensure non-conformances are identified and reported.
- Ensure the workforce has the correct drawings, specifications and information required to complete the works.
- Contribute to weekly programmes and monitor progress against targets and KPIs.
- Allocate labour, plant and resources effectively to maximise productivity.
- Monitor key project milestones and programme dates.
- Manage and monitor the works of subcontractors and direct labour.
- Validate labour and plant records.
- Monitor material usage and wastage and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate daily records.
- Monitor project scope and identify potential additional works or project creep.
- Build professional relationships with client representatives and project stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a General Foreman or similar supervisory position within construction or infrastructure.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Good knowledge of current H&S legislation and safe systems of work.
- Experience delivering toolbox talks and task briefings.
- Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
- Strong resource allocation and workforce management skills.
- Understanding of construction specifications, tolerances and Inspection & Test Plans.
- Experience monitoring construction programmes and key milestones.
- Ability to take ownership of works and deliver them from start to finish.
- Good understanding of project scope, commercial controls and material wastage.
- Awareness of NEC or other relevant forms of contract.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including nights or unsociable hours where required.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working on major infrastructure or high-profile construction projects.
- Experience across earthworks, deep drainage and reinforced concrete construction.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and identify practical solutions.
- Experience working to tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement across safety, quality and productivity.
