Summary

The John Radcliffe Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Fellow in Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICCs) to join our dynamic cardiology team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for advanced training in the diagnosis, management, and research of inherited cardiovascular diseases and neuromuscular disorders. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in a nationally recognized ICC service, working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver world-class patient care.

As part of the role, the successful candidate will:

• Participate in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients with inherited cardiac conditions and related disorders.

• Provide outpatient care, including ICC and neuromuscular-specific clinics, and assist with inpatient consultations.

• Collaborate with genetic counsellors to support family screening programs and cascade testing.

• Engage in ongoing clinical and translational research projects, with opportunities to design and lead studies.

Clinical Duties:

1. Participate in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients with inherited cardiac conditions and related disorders, including:

• Cardiomyopathies (e.g., hypertrophic, dilated, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies).

• Channelopathies (e.g., Long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome).

• Connective tissue disorders (e.g., Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome).

• Neuromuscular disorders with cardiac involvement (e.g., Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Becker muscular dystrophy, myotonic dystrophy).

Assist in performing and interpreting advanced diagnostic tests such as echocardiography, cardiac MRI, Holter monitoring, exercise testing, and genetic testing. Work closely with the neuromuscular team to provide comprehensive care for patients with cardiac manifestations of neuromuscular conditions. Collaborate with genetic counsellors to support family screening programs and cascade testing. Attend and contribute to weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, presenting cases and participating in decision-making. Provide outpatient care, including ICC and neuromuscular-specific clinics, and assist with inpatient consultations related to these conditions.

Research and Academic Development:

1. Engage in ongoing clinical and translational research projects, with opportunities to design and lead studies in areas such as:

• Cardiomyopathy and neuromuscular disorder registries and natural history studies.

• Genotype-phenotype correlations in inherited and neuromuscular conditions.

• Cardiac outcomes in patients with Duchenne, Becker, and myotonic dystrophies.

• Sex differences in inherited cardiovascular disease.

• Recruiting to multi-centre collaborations

Contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences. Support audit and quality improvement projects to enhance ICC and neuromuscular services.

Teaching and Training:

1. Provide teaching to medical students, junior doctors, and allied health professionals on inherited cardiac conditions and neuromuscular disorders.

2. Deliver case-based teaching sessions and contribute to departmental educational activities.

3. Supervise trainees in ICC- and neuromuscular-related procedures and clinical decision-making.

Leadership and Innovation:

1. Participate in service development projects, including expanding the ICC and neuromuscular clinics and family screening services.

2. Support the implementation of innovative care pathways and patient engagement initiatives.

3. Contribute to the development of departmental guidelines for managing inherited cardiac and neuromuscular conditions.
