A welcoming SEN school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join their team. The school provides a supportive and structured learning environment for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a range of additional needs, ensuring every pupil receives the individual support they need to thrive.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting pupils throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop their communication and social skills, and manage their emotions and behaviour. You will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to create a positive, safe and nurturing environment.
Key responsibilities:
• Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and additional needs
• Supporting pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities
• Helping pupils develop communication, social and emotional skills
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Assisting pupils with their individual learning and development targets
• Working closely with teachers and support staff to provide consistent support
• Supporting pupils during transitions, break times and other activities throughout the school day

The successful applicant will:
• Have experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or autism setting
• Have a patient, calm and nurturing approach
• Be confident supporting children with communication, behavioural and emotional needs
• Be reliable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
• Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
• Previous experience supporting pupils with ASC is desirable
• SEN qualifications or relevant training are desirable but not essential
