Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Specialist Practitioner to join the Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service (NDT), based at Springfield Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for registered professionals from Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy and other relevant professional backgrounds, with experience of working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental needs, to develop specialist skills and broaden their clinical experience within a dynamic multidisciplinary service. The post holder will be supported through appropriate clinical supervision from an experienced senior clinician and will have opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in neurodevelopmental assessment. The role would be particularly well suited to candidates who are keen to build a career within neurodevelopmental services and who aspire to undertake future training in neurodiversity.

The main role within NDT involves:

· supportingsenior clinicianswith ADHD and ASD assessments

· screening referralsand contributing to clinical decision-making

· undertakingregular Mental Healthwelfare check in callsto families and CYP

· undertaking theSPA (Single Point of Access) duty role

· facilitatingrisk assessments

· undertakingschool observations

· undertakingclinical observations

· working within an MDT and supporting assessment pathways

The role will also involve collating and scoring standardised screening measures, writing reports, and completing other general tasks required within NDT, such as completing audits, literature searches or developing resources within the NDT for referrers, children, young people and their families. There are also opportunities to help facilitate our brief intervention groups for families. Excellent organisation and written and verbal communication skills will be required.

Main responsibilities

Referral screening

· To support the development, organisation and delivery of a Triage and assessment service

· To screen referrals against agreed neurodevelopmental service criteria, identify appropriate pathways and escalate referrals requiring senior clinical review.

ADHD/ASD assessment support

· To contribute to ADHD and autism assessments by undertaking agreed components of the assessment process, including gathering developmental information, clinical observations, school observations and relevant collateral information, and presenting findings to the assessing clinician/MDT.

SPA

· To participate in the CAMHS Single Point of Access duty function, responding to referrals and clinical queries within agreed protocols and escalating complex presentations or significant risk appropriately.

Waiting Well

· To provide structured Waiting Well contacts to children, young people and families/carers, identifying changes in presentation or risk and ensuring appropriate escalation.

Clinical and school observation

· To undertake clinical and educational observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment pathway and communicate relevant findings to the assessing clinician and MDT.

Others

· To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations and to support others involved in such situations.

· To receive regular clinical and professional supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines and undertake personal training relevant to the post in agreement with the supervising Clinician and the manager.

· To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations or published articles where appropriate.

· To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects to inform the Lead Psychologist and others in the development of Trust psychology and other services, training provision and research activities.
