Luma Education Recruitment is seeking an enthusiastic English Teacher to work within a specialist SEND setting in Towcester, Northamptonshire.
This role would suit an experienced English Teacher, Functional Skills English Teacher or SEN Teacher who enjoys working with young people who benefit from smaller classes, personalised teaching and a more flexible approach to education.
You will teach English and Functional Skills English, helping pupils strengthen their literacy, reading, writing and communication skills while working towards individual learning goals and qualifications.
About the Role
As an English Teacher within the school, you will deliver engaging lessons that are adapted to the needs and abilities of individual pupils.
The successful candidate will be confident working with pupils with a range of SEND needs and will be able to create structured, accessible lessons that encourage participation, confidence and progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
Teaching English and Functional Skills English to pupils with SEND
Delivering lessons across different abilities and levels
Supporting pupils working towards Functional Skills English qualifications
Developing literacy, reading, writing and communication skills
Adapting lesson plans and resources to suit individual learning needs
Working towards pupils' EHCP outcomes and individual targets
Creating an encouraging, structured and inclusive classroom
Monitoring attainment and recording pupil progress
Providing constructive feedback and appropriate intervention
Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and wider support staff
Supporting pupils' wider personal, social and emotional development
Following safeguarding, behaviour and school procedures
What We're Looking For
We are interested in hearing from teachers who have a strong background in English, literacy or Functional Skills and are passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs.
Ideally, you will have:
QTS or an appropriate teaching qualification
Experience teaching English, Functional Skills English or literacy
Previous experience working with SEND / SEN pupils
The ability to differentiate and personalise learning
Strong classroom management and communication skills
A calm, patient and adaptable teaching style
Experience within a special school, SEND provision, SEMH setting or alternative provision would be advantageous
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
