Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team of consultant paediatricians within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

We are seeking a General Paediatrician to play a key role in continuing to deliver our acute paediatric and neonatal services. There is also a new exciting role within our National Spinal Injuries Unit to work closely as their paediatric liaison.

The main purpose of this role will be to provide paediatric perspective for this group of children that are attending for rehabilitation purposes both as inpatients and outpatients. The consultant will provide general paediatric input to children and young people, including weekly ward reviews, MDT participation and high-quality clinical documentation, working collaboratively with the specialist spinal rehabilitation team.

Applications are welcome from those with special interest (s) in spinal injuries or neurological rehabilitation, but this is not essential to the role.

The successful candidate will join a team of consultants to undertake inpatient and outpatient work in Neonates and General Paediatrics including inpatient ward attending weeks, observation ward attending and on call activities on a pro-rata basis.

Outpatient

• There will be 1 General Paediatric clinics every week across Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe Hospitals ensuring local access for patient-

• Attending 1 spinal MDT clinic / week

On call

• The role will involve Paediatrician of the week (POW) and Neonatologist of the week (NOW) totalling 7 a year.

• There will also be attending weeks for the Children’s Observation Unit (COU) within the Children’s Emergency Department (CED)1.67 weeks / year. During these days s/he will have no other clinical commitment.

• The post holder will have resident duties on a fixed weekday evening working “Twilight” shifts from 16:00-22:00 hours within the Children’s Emergency Department. There will be a weekend twilight shift to cover the Friday to Sunday evenings for 3 weekends a year to ensure that college standards for Facing the Future are fully met.
