Summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Nurse to join the R & D team for 37.5 hours/week as maternity cover within the gastroenterology and stroke team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse to develop and expand their career in clinical research. This post will be offered either as a Band 6 or a Band 5-6 developmental role depending on experience.

You will join a passionate, driven and caring team in a friendly, professional working environment. The team delivers a diverse portfolio of studies, both commercial and non-commercial to help improve patient care and outcomes.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic Research Nurse with both relevant clinical and research experience. They need to be organised, self-motivated and aspire to further their knowledge and career in Clinical Research. Experience in gastroenterology and/or stroke is preferable. They will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study start-up, recruitment, delivery, study close out and archiving. They will be required to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in order to autonomously manage a portfolio of research studies.

The purpose of the job is to assist, coordinate and implement a variety of research studies conducted within the Trust.

As a Research Nurse you will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in these trials, facilitating high standards of nursing care and promoting the continuity of care of patients involved in these trials. This will involve recruitment, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate research data, all of which must be managed in accordance with ICH, GCP and the EU Directive on Clinical Trials and local HHFT SOP’s. The post holder will be expected to develop relevant skills and knowledge relating to clinical trials, research methodology and requirements of local, national and international research regulations. You will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your caseload of clinical trial patients. You will promote the continued improvement in the care of research participants and quality of research data.

The post holder will support and deputise for the Senior Research Nurse, ensuring effective leadership of others within research.

Andover War Memorial Hospital (AWMH) provides community and hospital services including a minor injuries unit, outpatient clinics, diagnostic imaging, day surgery, rehabilitation and maternity services.

The role of the Research nurse is to coordinate clinical research studies at HHFT.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide research nursing input into clinical research studies.

• Co-ordinate a group of patients enrolled in research studies.

• To support and maintain a framework to lead, deliver and support clinical supervision, mentorship and education for all staff and students.

• Work according to GCP and research governance standards for clinical trials.

• It is expected that the post holder will also provide non-specialty assistance to other Research Nurses conducting clinical research.

• Act in accordance with the Code of Conduct/Professional Practice Standards of your profession e.g. NMC, HPC etc.

• Maintain own professional development, maintaining a personal portfolio.

• Identify own needs for clinical supervision and the most appropriate way to implement this.

• Understand and adhere to Trust policies and procedures.

• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

• To adhere to Code of Conduct/Professional Standards of your Profession e.g. NMC or HCPC.

• Embrace and implement the vision and values of HHFT

The post holder will be required to work cross all sites in Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
