Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

• National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO) (or willingness to complete within 3 years of appointment).

• Proven EYFS and KS1 Teaching Experience: Deep understanding of early child development, play-based learning, and foundational primary curriculum.

• Complex SEND Expertise: Demonstrated experience working directly with children with complex and diverse special educational needs and disabilities.

• EHCP Knowledge: Hands-on experience navigating the EHCP application process, drafting statutory assessment paperwork, and leading annual reviews.

• Outstanding Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven track record of building positive, empathetic, and trusting relationships with parents and carers.

Further details about the role

The Governors of Nether Green Infant School are seeking to appoint an excellent teacher to take on the role of SENDCO in our school. As an Infant School we are committed to early intervention in order to ensure all our children with Special Educational Needs are given the best possible start in their school life and make the progress they are capable of.

The Role

As our SENDCo, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our inclusive vision, leading SEND provision across the school, and ensuring that every child, regardless of their starting point or complexity of need, reaches their full potential The SENDco will also work closely with class teachers, support staff, external agencies, and families to ensure the implementation of high quality provision to support the needs of all our children. As a member of our leadership team the SENDco will ensure that the needs of all children across school influence decision making.

Key Responsibilities

• SEND Leadership & Provision: Lead, manage, and evaluate the strategic development of SEND provision across all year groups from Preschool to Year 2.

• Support Plan Management: Lead the end-to-end process for ensuring support plans are in place and are reviewed in line with statutory requirements. Manage Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications and annual reviews with accuracy and attention to detail.

• Multi-Agency Collaboration: Build strong, collaborative relationships with external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Health Visitors, and Local Authority inclusion teams.

• Complex Needs Support: Oversee bespoke interventions and support plans for children with complex, multi-faceted SEND, ensuring learning environments and teaching is adapted appropriately.

• Parent & Carer Partnership: Work in close partnership with parents and carers, maintaining sensitive, transparent, and regular communication to build trust and shared goals.

• Staff Mentoring & Training: Guide and coach EYFS and KS1 teachers and teaching assistants to deliver high-quality, adaptive teaching and evidence-based interventions.

• Safeguarding: To support the safeguarding team as one of the Deputy Safeguarding Leads
