Long Term Futures are working with an independent specialist school in Nottingham (NG5) to appoint a Construction Teacher on an hourly or permanent basis. Supporting Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils who have faced barriers to mainstream education, you will deliver engaging BTEC Level 1 Construction sessions in small groups, covering practical skills including joinery, plastering, bricklaying, plumbing and painting. The role focuses on re-engaging pupils through vocational learning while developing their confidence, employability and life skills.
The Role:
- Deliver engaging and practical BTEC Level 1 Construction lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils
- Introduce learners to a range of construction trades including joinery, bricklaying, plastering, plumbing and painting
- Plan and deliver practical projects that develop vocational skills, confidence and engagement
- Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour or have experienced barriers to mainstream education
- Maintain a safe, structured workshop environment with clear expectations around health and safety
- Assess practical work and support pupils in developing portfolios of evidence towards their qualification
- Work collaboratively with teaching, mentoring and pastoral staff to support pupils' wider development and progression
Who We're Looking For:
- A strong practical background within Construction or a relevant trade
- A recognised Construction or trade qualification is highly desirable
- Previous teaching, tutoring, instructing or training experience would be advantageous
- Confident delivering practical skills across one or more areas such as Joinery, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Plastering or Painting & Decorating
- Experience working with young people with behavioural, social or additional needs would be beneficial
- Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, consistent and resilient approach
- Someone passionate about passing their trade knowledge on to young people and helping them prepare for employment, apprenticeships or further education
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to complete the appropriate safeguarding checks
