successful, you will undergo a comprehensive and structured 6-month Clerk of Court training

programme centring around criminal and civil business facilitated by our Education and

Learning Unit and in partnership with your local team. Our approach is an inclusive one where

the development, support and growth of our people is at the heart of what we do. If you enjoy

challenges, teamwork with autonomy too and the opportunity to make valued contributions

whilst utilising your skills and talent then please consider this

opportunity seriously!

This role is suited to someone with a positive, inclusive

attitude and a commitment to supporting equitable working

practices. We are looking for individuals who willingly share

knowledge, value different perspectives, and take account of

the varied needs and experiences of colleagues and court

users.

As an Executive Officer, you will act as Clerk of Court. You will help ensure court business is

managed smoothly, proceedings run efficiently and cases progress in a timely and fair manner.

This includes overseeing hearings, preparing and managing casework, and supporting the

judiciary in applying legislation and procedures accurately and consistently.

We welcome applications from people with a range of backgrounds. While previous experience

managing or leading people—formally or informally—is desirable, it is not essential. You will

receive structured support through coaching, training and ongoing guidance to develop your

confidence and leadership skills.

Court Duties

• Fulfilling the role of Clerk of Court in criminal and civil proceedings, ensuring hearings run

smoothly and respectfully.

• Ensuring the accurate preparation, recording and disposal of casework, including diary

entries and intimation of court orders.

• Checking and processing civil and criminal applications and issuing court documentation

within statutory time limits.

• Supporting the judiciary with the appropriate application of legislation, rules and procedures.

General Responsibilities

• You may manage your own team, providing daily support, clear direction and

encouragement to contribute to their professional development.

• Providing accurate, accessible advice to all court users—including Sheriffs, solicitors and

members of the public—often in relation to technical or procedural matters.
