Are you an experienced HPC professional looking for an opportunity to work on large-scale computational infrastructure that supports complex, data-intensive workloads?

We're seeking a Senior HPC Engineer to join a highly regarded organisation investing heavily in its scientific computing capability. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll take ownership of HPC infrastructure, collaborate with technical users, and help shape the future direction of a growing compute environment.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the administration, optimisation and ongoing development of a Linux-based HPC platform supporting demanding computational workloads across CPU and GPU environments. Working closely with end users, you'll help deliver scalable, reliable and secure services while acting as a key technical expert for HPC infrastructure and operations.

This role combines Linux systems engineering, platform administration, automation, performance optimisation and user engagement. You'll have the opportunity to influence infrastructure strategy, introduce new technologies and improve the overall user experience of a critical compute environment.

Key Responsibilities

Administer and optimise Linux-based HPC infrastructure.

Manage compute, storage, networking and platform services.

Support and maintain HPC scheduling platforms, including SLURM.

Build and support containerised environments using tools such as Docker and Singularity/Apptainer.

Troubleshoot performance issues across infrastructure and user workloads.

Develop automation and monitoring solutions to improve platform reliability.

Work directly with users to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.

Produce technical documentation, training materials and operational procedures.

The key requirement is that you've worked within a genuine HPC environment and have experience supporting shared compute infrastructure.

Essential Experience

Linux systems administration.

HPC cluster administration and support.

Job scheduling technologies such as SLURM.

Bash scripting and automation.

Docker, Singularity or Apptainer.

Git or similar version control tools.

Troubleshooting across compute, storage, networking and operating systems.

Desirable Experience

GPU infrastructure and CUDA.

AI/ML platforms.

Scientific software deployment.

Ansible, Terraform or Infrastructure as Code tooling.

Monitoring platforms such as Grafana and Prometheus.

Python, R or C programming.
