Summary
Health & Safety Manager
Our client is an established
fit-out and refurbishment main contractor based in
Dartford, delivering projects across commercial, retail, hospitality, education and high-end residential sectors throughout London and the South East.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced
Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of
health, safety, environmental and wellbeing performance across their projects.
This is a hands-on role working closely with senior management, Contracts Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and project teams to maintain high standards, promote a proactive safety culture and ensure projects are delivered safely and compliantly.
The role will involve regular visits to live construction sites, including occupied and refurbishment environments, making it well suited to an H&S professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams and taking a practical approach to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing health, safety, environmental and wellbeing standards across fit-out and refurbishment projects.
- Providing H&S advice and support to site and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Reviewing and developing RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, risk assessments and H&S documentation.
- Monitoring subcontractor performance and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Investigating incidents, near misses and non-conformances, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and training.
- Supporting client inspections, external audits and regulatory visits.
- Producing H&S reports, KPIs and performance updates for senior management.
- Maintaining and improving the company's Health & Safety Management System.
- Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and industry best practice.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Health & Safety Manager, Senior Health & Safety Advisor, HSE Manager or similar within construction.
- Experience working for a Main Contractor, Principal Contractor or specialist fit-out/refurbishment contractor.
- Strong background in fit-out, refurbishment or commercial construction.
- Experience across commercial, retail, hospitality, education or high-end residential projects is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of UK construction H&S legislation and CDM Regulations.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent).
- IOSH membership required; Chartered status desirable.
- Strong experience in audits, inspections, incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Practical, proactive approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across London and the South East.
