Some SEN support roles involve helping numerous children across a classroom. This one is different.
A family in Putney is looking for an exceptional person to become a consistent source of learning, practical and emotional support for one bright primary-age child with an EHCP.
You'll be there for the everyday moments at school, but you'll also understand the bigger picture. You'll know what appointments are coming up. You'll communicate with the adults involved in the child's support. You'll recognise when something has been difficult. You'll notice progress that someone seeing the child occasionally might miss.
Over time, you'll become an important and trusted professional within the child's wider support team.
Your day will usually begin at 8am in Putney, accompanying the child from home and providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
Most days will finish at around 4pm, with some agreed days continuing until approximately 5pm.
But this isn't simply a school-based LSA position.
You'll also:
- Support learning and participation throughout the school day
- Help with transitions, regulation and social interaction
- Accompany the child to relevant educational, therapeutic or medical appointments
- Help coordinate their day-to-day diary
- Communicate with parents, school staff, therapists and other professionals
- Provide home-based support or accompany activities on agreed working days when school is closed
- Notice changes, concerns and progress and communicate these appropriately
- Help create consistency between the different environments and professionals surrounding the child
Additional hours or days outside the agreed working pattern will be discussed and paid separately.
Being caring is important, but for this role, it isn't enough on its own. The family needs someone who is exceptionally dependable, organised and proactive.
If something needs following up, you follow it up. If an appointment changes, you make sure the right people know.
If the child has had a particularly difficult day, you communicate it, and if you notice something that could help, you don't assume someone else will deal with it.
You'll also need the emotional maturity to remain calm and consistent during dysregulation or challenging moments, while maintaining clear professional and safeguarding boundaries.
We're not looking for someone who views SEN support simply as helping a child who is "struggling". You'll be working with a bright primary-age child who needs the right support to access their abilities, manage the demands around them and participate successfully in everyday life.
Curiosity, patience and intellectual engagement will therefore be important.
We'd be particularly interested in hearing from:
- Experienced SEN Teaching Assistants or Learning Support Assistants
- Autism or ADHD support practitioners
- Learning or behaviour mentors
- Psychology graduates
- Education graduates
- Child Development graduates
- Graduates considering Educational Psychology or a related profession
You should already have experience working with children and feel comfortable supporting autism, ADHD and/or additional needs.
Reliable - this child needs consistency.
Calm - particularly when things aren't going to plan.
Organised - you'll have practical responsibility as well as direct support.
Observant - small changes can matter.
Proactive - you'll be trusted to use your judgement appropriately.
Professional - you'll be working closely with a family while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Communicative - parents and professionals need clear, timely information.
You must have the right to work in the UK and be able to complete the required DBS and reference checks.
You should also be physically confident and willing to undertake appropriate behaviour or physical-intervention training if required.
This is a direct private appointment with one family, rather than a recruitment agency placement or conventional classroom support role.
The family is warm, engaged and highly invested in getting the right support around their child. They value good judgement, initiative and open communication.

The salary is up to £25,000 gross per annum, depending on experience and the final agreed hours.
The role is expected to begin around October half term 2026, with a paid trial week preferred.
