Summary

Clinical: Provide high quality elective and emergency surgical care to the people of Newcastle and the wider NE Further develop sub-speciality services as part of a multidisciplinary team Administrative: Provide timely communication to the wider team in hospital and the community Contribute to the efficient running of elective and acute care. Engage with national audits (NELA, NBOCAP, IMPACT etc) Research: Engage with research activities in the department and sit within Newcastle Centre for Bowel Diseases Provide leadership in supporting medical students and doctors in training deliver research projects Teaching: The department leads many educational programs and teaching is an important part of this role Opportunities to lead/further develop courses are numerous via the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre (NSTC) Flexibility: In line with the Trusts core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
