An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Trust Grade Doctor (SHO/ST1-2 Equivalent) to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department at The Royal London Hospital. This post offers excellent experience within a busy tertiary referral centre, providing comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological services to a diverse population across East London.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across a range of clinical settings including labour ward, antenatal and postnatal wards, emergency gynaecology services, operating theatres and outpatient clinics. Working alongside experienced consultants, registrars, midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the management of both routine and complex cases while developing your clinical and professional skills.

Main duties, responsibilities, and results areas

Obstetrics

• Provide labour ward care under supervision

• Participate in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal management

• Assist in operative deliveries including caesarean section and instrumental delivery

• Perform perineal repair and CTG interpretation

• Participate in obstetric emergencies and HDU care

• Conduct ward rounds and patient reviews

Gynaecology

• Assess patients in emergency gynaecology and wards

• Participate in outpatient clinics under supervision

• Assist and perform emergency procedures including management of ectopic pregnancy

• Contribute to elective theatre lists

On‑call responsibilities

• Participate in 1:10 SHO rota

• Work within a 3‑tier rota alongside registrars and consultants

• Maintain effective handover and documentation

• Respond promptly to emergency referrals

Teaching and governance • Attend audit, M&M and governance meetings • Participate in teaching programmes and simulation training • Teach junior staff and students • Contribute to service improvement and incident reporting

Leadership and professionalism

• Demonstrate WeCare values in daily practice

• Work collaboratively across teams

• Maintain accurate clinical records and administrative duties

• Support departmental development and patient experience improvements
