Summary

I

Not by taking over from the teacher, but by noticing the pupil who's fallen behind, explaining something another way, keeping a small group focused or giving a child enough encouragement to attempt something independently.

A school in Banbury is looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant to become part of its classroom team.

It's a practical, varied role for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to be actively involved in their learning and development.

You'll work alongside the class teacher throughout the school day, supporting learning across the classroom.

Sometimes you'll work with an individual pupil who needs additional help. At other times, you'll take a small group, reinforce something that's already been taught or circulate around the classroom helping children stay on task.

You'll also help teachers understand how pupils are progressing by sharing what you've observed during your work with them.

Typical responsibilities include:

- Supporting pupils during classroom lessons

- Providing targeted individual support

- Working with small groups on planned activities

- Reinforcing literacy, numeracy and wider curriculum learning

- Helping prepare classroom activities and resources

- Encouraging participation and independent learning

- Supporting children's social and emotional development

- Monitoring progress and feeding back to the class teacher

- Keeping appropriate records where required

- Helping maintain a calm, organised and positive classroom

You don't need to be the loudest person in the classroom.

Good Teaching Assistants tend to be observant, approachable and reliable. They notice when a child is struggling without immediately giving them the answer. They communicate well with teachers and understand how to encourage children while maintaining appropriate expectations.

Previous experience in education or child development would be useful, as would a relevant qualification.

You'll also need:

- Good written and verbal communication

- Confidence working directly with children

- Patience and empathy

- The ability to follow guidance from teaching staff

- Good organisation

- A flexible approach when plans change

- Confidence using basic technology and digital learning resources

- The ability to work effectively as part of a team

This is a full-time position in Banbury, with a salary of £21,257.48-£23,232.69 per annum.

You'll work alongside experienced education professionals and gain valuable classroom experience while developing your own skills.

It could suit an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for their next school, or someone with relevant child-focused experience who is ready to develop further within education.

If you're looking for a straightforward, hands-on role where you'll spend your working day supporting children to learn, participate and become more independent, we'd like to hear from you.
