Summary
Outreach Tutor - Basildon, Wickford & Billericay
£20-£25 per hour
Part-Time or Full-Time | 2-6 Hours Per Day Available
Umbrella & Self-Employed Options
Working one-to-one with a young person can be incredibly rewarding.
But it also comes with responsibility.
What do you teach? Where are the resources? Who do you speak to if you're concerned about something? What happens if the student doesn't attend?
This outreach service has thought about those things.
We're recruiting Tutors across Basildon, Wickford and Billericay to deliver individualised education to young people who require an alternative to conventional classroom-based learning.
And importantly, this is an alternative education service - not a recruitment agency.
The working pattern is unusually flexible.
You could support one student for two hours per day, Monday to Friday, or build your availability up to six hours per day, five days per week.
That makes the opportunity suitable for tutors looking for anything from a smaller regular commitment to a substantial weekly timetable.
You'll work predominantly one-to-one, adapting learning around the student's ability, circumstances and individual objectives.
You'll plan and deliver appropriate learning for the young person you're supporting.
Pre-planned lessons and resources are available through the service's curriculum hub, but you'll use your professional judgement to adapt them for the individual student.
You'll:
- Deliver structured 1:1 tuition
- Adapt learning around individual starting points and needs
- Use provided lesson plans, resources and curriculum objectives
- Create additional activities where appropriate
- Build engagement with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education
- Monitor academic progress
- Maintain accurate records
- Provide regular feedback
- Communicate appropriately with families and other professionals
- Attend relevant meetings and training
That's an important distinction.
Outreach naturally involves spending significant time working directly with a young person away from a conventional classroom team.
But professional support remains available.
You'll receive:
- A full induction
- Initial risk-assessment support from a Lead Tutor
- Ongoing access to experienced Tutors
- Support from Inclusion Managers
- Access to Designated Safeguarding Leads
- A curriculum hub containing resources, objectives and lesson plans
- Full access to TES Educare with 100+ CPD courses
You'll also continue to be paid when your student is off sick, providing greater consistency than many sessional tutoring arrangements.
LT Support is acting as an extension of the service to help streamline recruitment, with the opportunity for suitable candidates to pre-qualify for the role immediately.
Your background might be in teaching, tutoring, intervention work or alternative provision.
Previous outreach or one-to-one experience would be particularly useful, but what matters is that you're confident taking responsibility for an individual student's learning.
You'll need:
- Relevant teaching, tutoring or intervention experience
- Strong communication skills
- Confidence building rapport one-to-one
- The ability to adapt teaching to different starting points
- Good organisation and record keeping
- Creativity when conventional approaches aren't working
- Professional judgement and appropriate boundaries
- A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Rates are £20-£25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with Umbrella and Self-Employed arrangements available.
Opportunities are currently available across Basildon, Wickford and Billericay.
If you're looking for the independence of outreach tutoring with proper educational, curriculum and safeguarding support behind you, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and let us know your location and availability.
