Summary

Salford

£112.50 per day | Full-Time | Temp-to-Perm

Full Academic Year | Part-Time Considered

Perhaps you enjoy working in mainstream education but want to develop more specialist SEND experience.

Or you've worked in a specialist setting and like the idea of supporting children within a broader mainstream school community.

This opportunity in Salford offers a little of both.

We're recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a well-resourced SEND provision within a mainstream primary school, supporting children with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs and other additional needs.

It's a full academic-year position with the potential to become permanent.

This isn't simply occasional SEND support within a mainstream classroom.

You'll be working with pupils who require consistent, individualised support to communicate, regulate, learn and participate successfully in school life.

Some children may use spoken language confidently.

Others may communicate using PECS, Makaton or another Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) approach.

Some pupils may access parts of mainstream school life independently while requiring significantly more support at other times.

You'll learn each child's individual approach and work with the wider team to provide consistency.

Your role will include:

- Providing 1:1 and small-group support

- Supporting pupils with autism and moderate to severe learning difficulties

- Using appropriate communication strategies

- Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level

- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour

- Encouraging communication, interaction and social development

- Developing independence wherever possible

- Following EHCPs and individual support plans

- Implementing agreed therapeutic and behaviour strategies

- Sharing observations and progress with colleagues

- Working alongside teachers, the SENCO, therapists and support staff

We're particularly interested in candidates who have already supported children or young people with autism, SEMH, communication needs or more complex SEND.

You might currently work in:

Mainstream SEND Support | Specialist Education | Autism Provision | Alternative Provision | Children's Support

You don't need every specialist qualification listed below.

But you will need to be patient, resilient and comfortable adapting your communication and support around individual children.

Experience or training in any of the following would be particularly useful:

- PECS

- Makaton

- British Sign Language (BSL)

- AAC

- Team Teach

- MAPA

- Positive behaviour support

- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning

The school has an experienced SEND team and provides ongoing professional development, including opportunities to strengthen your knowledge of communication approaches and behaviour support.

You'll also receive:

- £112.50 per day

- Free CPD and safeguarding training

- Support from a dedicated education consultant

- A full academic-year placement

- Potential progression into permanent employment

Full-time availability is preferred, although part-time candidates will also be considered.

A temp-to-perm role gives you something a short placement can't.

You get time to know the children.

The children get time to know you.

And both you and the school get the opportunity to decide whether it's the right long-term fit.

If you're looking to deepen your SEND experience within a supportive primary environment, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply with your CV for this SEN Teaching Assistant opportunity in Salford.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check (Child and Adult Workforce), satisfactory professional references and compliance with current Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance and safer recruitment procedures. Overseas police checks may also be required where applicable.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We act as an employment business in relation to this vacancy.
