Summary

Patient Safety Band 6 nurses contribute to the delivery of safe and reliable services: Applying clinical judgment and conducting risk assessments to ensure the safety of those using our services. Safeguarding individuals by recognizing and responding to potential risks of abuse, while also acknowledging their limits and seeking assistance when needed. Raising safety concerns and acting as effective advocates for service users. Being open and transparent about their clinical practice. Supervising the work of others to ensure quality and safety standards are upheld. Reflecting on daily practice to identify areas for improvement in safety or quality. Collaborating with others to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Maintaining accurate, legible, and comprehensive patient records. Ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements. As per the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), all nurses, including Band 6 nurses, are required to register with the NMC annually and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct, which plays a crucial role in safeguarding the public. Clinical Outcomes Band 6 nurses often work with individuals who have complex needs and contribute to the effectiveness of services by: Demonstrating confidence as autonomous practitioners, taking responsibility for their care delivery while overseeing the work of less experienced staff. Providing skilled, evidence-based nursing care in line with established policies and procedures. Collaborating with patients and families throughout the care planning process, including assessing risks and needs. Advocating for patients within the multi-disciplinary team and ensuring others on the team provide clinically effective care. Reflecting on their practice regularly and encouraging team reflection during handovers and meetings. Promoting learning from adverse events, audits, or benchmarking exercises to implement improvements in clinical outcomes. Patient Experience Band 6 nurses contribute to patients feeling respected and empowered by: Partnering with patients and their families and carers. Gaining consent and, whenever possible, involving patients in decision-making. Refer patients and carers to relevant courses and services, such as those provided by the Recovery and Wellbeing College or local authorities. Offering reassurance through professionalism, responsiveness, and confidence. Demonstrating clinical leadership by addressing poor behaviour and fostering a positive, inclusive culture where kindness and respect are prioritized, and the Trusts values are integrated into practice. Addressing complaints or concerns promptly and by Trust policies. Teamwork and Leadership As a Band 6 nurse, you will be an excellent team player, facilitating collaborative working to ensure high standards of assessment, care, and treatment for patients both within the ward and the wider unit. Additionally, you will demonstrate leadership skills by guiding the nursing team on the ward and across the wider unit when taking on the role of unit coordinator.
