Summary

Senior Residential Childcare Practitioner

Earn £40,000+ per year including sleep-ins

Location: Bridgwater & Wellington, Somerset

Salary: £34,500 basic salary plus £70 per sleep-in

Potential earnings: £40,000+ per year including sleep-ins

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, worked across 24 and 48-hour shifts

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Start date: As soon as possible

We are looking for an experienced and values-led Senior Residential Support Worker to join our Ofsted-rated Good children's home in Swindon. About the Role

This is more than a senior care role. It is an opportunity to help create a home where young people feel safe, valued and understood.

The young people we support may have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments, emotional and behavioural difficulties, exploitation risks or placement breakdowns. They need consistent adults who can provide stability, meaningful relationships and a belief in their potential.

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will lead by example, supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality care while maintaining a nurturing, structured and therapeutic environment. You will play a key role in ensuring that young people experience predictability, emotional safety and positive outcomes.

You will work closely with the Registered Manager and wider team, contributing to the development of staff, supporting shift leadership and helping maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and care.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead shifts and support the day-to-day running of the home

- Act as a role model for trauma-informed and child-centred practice

- Support, coach and mentor Residential Support Workers

- Build positive, professional relationships with young people

- Promote safeguarding, emotional wellbeing and positive outcomes

- Support young people with routines, education, appointments and activities

- Assist with care planning, risk management and record keeping

- Complete reports, handovers and documentation to a high standard

- Work collaboratively with families, social workers, schools and health professionals

- Assist managers with quality assurance and service development

- Work a rota that includes sleep-ins, weekends and bank holidays
